After a few queries from our readers as to why the Lounge sites cannot be searched from within the Lounge, we realised fixing that small oversight was a “good idea”. And so we set to work. Or rather, we slipped a few pizzas to someone who understands such things, and he set to work.

Searching official sites and newspapers for news and information on anything from NASCAR and NFL to US rock and the Rockies can now be done from wherever you are in the Lounge. Easy or what?

Juan Pablo Montoya started the Daytona 500 in the 36th spot, and over 202 gruelling laps that would claim 13 racecars, he managed to avoid trouble and finish the race in the top 20 and, unlike some other drivers, he ended the day both the right way up and not on fire.

With some NASCAR veterans still struggling to get to grips with plate racing, it could be seen as a good start to what is undoubtedly a learning year. However, some would disagree. At the last glance on JPM’s official site over 22% rated his performance as Not Good At All, while 48% opt for Bad Luck But Looks Good, a reference to his reported handling problems.

We’re reserving judgment right now. The plates come off this week in Fontana, and after that and the subsequent races at Vegas and Atlanta we’ll have a better idea of how JPM’s season may shake out.

Oh, and after those long, wide speedways there’s the small matter of Tennessee’s bull ring, Bristol Motor Speedway. We wouldn’t like to say whether JPM’s first short track proper will result in a short race, but we’ll bet the farm it’ll be exciting.

After the barnstorming Daytona 500, everyone at UK American is breathing a sigh of relief as NASN (the North American Sports Network) has secured the rights to show the Nextel Cup live from the second race of the season, the Auto Club 500 from California Speedway in Fontana. A statement on nasn.com reads as follow …

LIVE NASCAR Nextel Cup returns to NASN on Sunday February 25th and will air on Setanta Sports Ireland (Sky Channel 434 in UK and 429 in ROI).
